Tammy S. is a Service Coordinator on CRIS’ Early Intervention Help Me Grow team.
For 24 years, Tammy S. taught kindergarten and first grade in Texas, Kansas, and Ohio, helping launch young learners into their formal schooling years. Now, as an Early Intervention Coordinator with Ohio’s Help Me Grow program at CRIS, she’s supporting children and families at an even earlier stage.
Early Intervention connects families of infants and toddlers who may have developmental delays or disabilities with the assessment and services they need. As a service coordinator, Tammy is the point person who helps families navigate those supports, and she’s now bringing that experience to the immigrant and refugee families we serve. “I’m looking forward to adding an extra layer of resources and support to some of my families who are struggling in today’s world,” she shares.
Her path to her current role began at Bowling Green State University, where she earned her degree in Elementary Education and later a PK-12 Reading Endorsement. Before joining the CRIS team, she served in Early Intervention through the YMCA for two years.
Her own life has had plenty of change. Born in Toledo, Tammy grew up in Ohio and West Virginia, and she credits all that moving with giving her the bravery to try new things. During her senior year of college, she took her first-ever plane ride to student teach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After graduation, she moved to Dallas on her own and started her first teaching job on the first day of school. That willingness to step into the unfamiliar is something she brings to her work with families who are navigating a new place and new systems themselves.
Please join us in welcoming Tammy to the CRIS team!
