Helping Seniors: Preventing Falls

In partnership with Central Ohio Agency on Aging (COAAA) and CRIS’ Senior Program, CRIS’ Refugee  Health and Wellness Program offered two sessions of fall prevention training for Bhutanese Nepali seniors.About 35 seniors attended the sessions. Seniors are at a high risk for falls, especially during the winter months, and a fall can be quite devastating for overall health and wellness.Through this training participants learned techniques for increasing their safety in their homes, identified how to respond after a fall, and practiced simple exercises for improving strength and balance. The training aims to support seniors in improving their self-confidence, maintaining their mobility, and providing information that can then be shared by participants throughout their community.
