How can I support Afghan Refugees?

CRIS resettled over 100 people from Afghanistan between 2014 and 2021, and we expect to welcome close to 300 more between late 2021 and early 2022. As situations evolve, we have been so inspired by the support of our Central Ohio Community. With arrivals increasing from both Afghanistan and other parts of the world, here are some of the best ways you can help:

Form a Welcome Team

A Welcome Team is a group of volunteers who help welcome a newly-arriving family in a variety of ways. This is a relationship-focused commitment designed to give families the opportunity to forge an immediate connection with the Central Ohio Community.

Purchase a Bed

CRIS clients are in need of new, durable, and compact bedframes and mattresses. For the sake of saving time and space, we are looking for easily transportable options with little to no assembly required. Click the link below to learn more.

Become a volunteer with CRIS

Register to join Open Homes on AirBnb

If you have an open residence, consider joining Open Homes on AirBnb to donate a stay to refugees waiting for long term housing.

Rent to refugees

Our clients are in need of affordable, safe housing. If you are a landlord, or know of rental properties that are willing to lease to new arrivals, please send an email to refugeehousing@cris-ohio.org.

Register and fund-raise for the CRIS 5K and Advocacy Fair

This year’s hybrid event will feature programming and speakers connected to current events. As always, this is our biggest annual event and raises money to sustain the programs and services CRIS offers.

Support New Arrivals

The NeighborRelief platform is how community members can connect and help CRIS clients with donations to rent, utility bills, bus passes, and other one-time emergency needs.
