Statement on Supreme Court’s Ruling on Haitian/Syrian TPS Termination
CRIS represents hundreds of Haitian families that have been impacted by today's Supreme Court decision to permit the federal government to terminate TPS for Haitian and Syrian nationals.
Columbus is home to thousands of Haitian neighbors who obtained TPS and built lives here. They raised families. They opened businesses. They filled critical roles in our manufacturing and healthcare sectors. These are not strangers. They are our coworkers, our classmates, our friends. They are our community.
Today's decision strips away that stability. Haiti remains in the grip of armed gangs that control most of the capital and much of the countryside. The U.S. State Department itself warns against any travel there, citing kidnapping, violence, and a near-total collapse of basic safety and governance. For many Haitian neighbors, returning is not going home. It is walking into danger they have no way to survive.
This decision puts families, livelihoods, and our local economy at risk. But Columbus has always been a city that takes care of its own. That will not change today.
CRIS remains committed to providing support, accurate information, and steady advocacy to the Haitian and Syrian families navigating this uncertainty. There is still work to be done. There are still options to explore. And there is a community ready to stand behind our Haitian and Syrian neighbors.
We are not going anywhere.
